Synopsis:

Winner of the 2019 Readers’ Favorite International Book Award Bronze Medal, Young Adult-Social Issues

High school freshman Roman Santi has everything — good looks, great friends, a mansion with an infinity swimming pool — except the one thing he really wants. A relationship with his father.

When Roman’s life gets turned upside down, (thanks, Mom!?), he is forced to leave his pampered Hollywood lifestyle and move into his grandparents’ Midwestern home. Sleeping on a lumpy pullout sofa and starting at a new high school is the worst, but Roman’s life starts to look up when his pink-haired friend, Zuzu, and his crush, a classmate named Claire, introduce him to performance poetry through the high school’s Spoken Word Club. While his mom is flying back and forth to L.A., trying to return them to the life they had, Roman becomes part of a diverse group of characters who challenge his rather privileged view of the world. Through Spoken Word, Roman recognizes the hole in his own life he needs to fill and discovers his voice. Spoken Word leads Roman on a journey of new friendships, first love, and finding the dad he never knew.

“Spoken” is an uplifting, funny, and heartfelt coming-of-age story that captures how the honesty of performance poetry binds together students from all different walks of life and forever changes Roman’s life.

Opinion:

I found Spoken to be a little difficult to get into, but once I was in I was hooked. The story is very easy to relate to, especially for me, as I have been through similar things myself. Not the LA or the moving across the country parts, which are comical by the way, but the broken home aspects.

The main character, who is quite angsty if I do say so myself, was able to find himself through poetry. After moving across the country due to his mothers infidelity, he finds himself uprooted and unsure of who is or who he can even be in this new environment. Poetry, and the Spoken Word Club at his high school, connected him to friends, his father who he did not know, and his family.

I would have liked/would like to seem more on his connecting with his father. I was a tad disappointing that that was such a huge end goal for this novel and then was underwhelming when it happened.

I was really quite touched by the novel, and I do want to thank the author for reaching out to be. I am pleased to say I have given this novel five stars and this completely unbiased, from the heart, review.

If you are looking for a nice, heart filling read, check out Spoken Word by Melanie Weiss.

Misadventures is a romantic series of spicy standalone novels, each written or co-written by some of the best names in romance. The stories are scandalous, refreshing, and, of course, incredibly sexy. They’re the perfect bedside read, a ‘quick blush’ for the reader who loves a page-turning romance.

No one else can stop them…

I’ve never loved Tristan more. I’ve never trusted him less. Is it murder in his eyes or just jealousy when he insists we’ll find answers in Boston, headquarters of one of our greatest enemies and home to the man I left back in Rio?

I haven’t forgotten Kolt’s betrayal nor the blood that’s already been spilled between our families. Inviting him back into my life with the promise of settling our unfinished business is a dangerous gamble that could end in more bloodshed.

But as his family’s twisted plan starts to unfold, nothing can prepare me for the horror of what will happen if I do nothing. More people will die, and every death will serve a dark purpose. Tristan and I may be an army of two, but one thing is certain―if we can’t save them, no one will.

TO BE CONTINUED?!?!? WHAT? LADY YOU’RE TRYING TO KILL ME. I can’t seem to get enough of The Red Ledger. This was it. The end. Where everything came together. OR SO I FREAKIN’ THOUGHT UNTIL THE END. I will say though *spoiler* I’m glad Isabel found the vial and Tristan crushed the “cure”. Was it the cure? Who knows? Let’s crush it. Finally. I was so happy to see everyone take accountability for their actions. Especially Isabel’s father, Morgan. I thought it was over, but apparently Meredith has more twists and turns for us, and honestly? I can’t wait.

Synopsis:

I’d set flame to that perfect piece of art. Scorched it with a lie because I knew she was too perfect, too pure for me.

Even now, all these years later, I saw the look on her face–the devastated expression that told me I’d crushed her. All that beauty fractured with one lie.

It broke her.

It destroyed me.

The last time I saw her had unhinged me. It had been years, but Sammy had still managed to devastate me with a look. Then, she slapped me right across the face.

But today, in this holy place, at this time, she should know I would find her. I was better prepared this time. I could wait. I could watch and see her pristine self. A perfect vision in her black dress and black hat, clutching her red rosary beads as she closed her eyes and prayed.

Not for me.

No.

Never.

On the heels of the enemy….

They say Paris is for lovers. If only this trip across the ocean could be that simple. We should be wasting time in cafés and dreaming about our future—the one I’m determined to fight for, the one Isabel truly deserves. Instead, we’re here on the heels of the enemy.

Focused on a bigger prize, the secret society that’s been hunting us is now being hunted. They just don’t know it yet. We’re so close I can taste it. So close I can feel my grip tightening around them. Each day we know more. Every revelation unmasks a new player.

Thanks to old alliances, we’re that much closer to crippling their plans. Just when we’re closing in for the kill, we’re stopped dead in our tracks. And the only path forward will tear our worlds apart.

Opinion:

Ohhhhh snapppppp! Part Eight coming in hot over here.

First of all, Paris. Dream vacation spot. I absolutely love how Wild is always changing the setting, especially this one.

Second, of course we’re nearing the end so we’re starting to tie up loose ends and see an ending on the horizon.

Lots of action from start to finish here. Totally wasn’t expecting the airport twist and federal agencies twist (without giving too much away there.)

I don’t know how this is going to end, and I think that’s one of the reasons I thoroughly enjoy this series. There are twists and turns around every corner and I think part nine is going to be the biggest and baddest Red Ledger yet.
