What Are You Reading Wednesday?

I’m going to do this WAYRW a little different than usual. I finished Cinder and And I Darken yesterday and I haven’t had the opportunity to start a new book yet. I don’t have a favorite quote from page 34 and I have no idea what land I’m even about to read about.

I REALLY need to read the books I bought a long time ago before I read the new ones I am looking forward to, so I’m mixing a little of both to save myself from misery. I picked a random book from my TBR shelf that has been sitting there for probably ten years called Princess Ben. For newly purchased books I picked Scarlet, the next book in the Lunar Chronicles.

I don’t know how Princess Ben is going to go. I honestly haven’t even read the synopsis since I bought the book. I’m SUPER EXCITED for Scarlet though. I loved Cinder and I read in reviews from others that the series only gets better and better from here.

I’m going to pull a little TBR Tuesday into the mix and open up some discussion on this post, hopefully!

Have you read Princess Ben?

Did you enjoy it?

Should I try reading it or is it a dust collector/resell?

Did you love/hate it?

Without spoiling anything, what should I look forward to the most?

TBR Tuesday

This week’s TBR TUESDAY is……

Seven Black Diamonds (Seven Black Diamonds #1) by Melissa Marr

Seven Black Diamonds (Seven Black Diamonds, #1)

Synopsis: Lilywhite Abernathy is a criminal. Her father’s “unconventional” business has meant a life of tightly held secrets, concealed weaponry, and a strict code. But Lily’s crime isn’t being the daughter of a powerful mob boss. Her guilt lies in the other half of her DNA—the part that can coax ancient rumors from stones and summon fire with a thought. Lily is part fae, which is a crime in her world.

From the time before she was born, a war has been raging between humanity and fae. The Queen of Blood and Rage, ruler of both the Seelie and Unseelie courts, wants to avenge the tragic death of her heir—a death that was the fault of reckless humans.

Lily’s father has shielded her from the repercussions of her ancestry…until she is sent to the prestigious St. Columba’s school, straight into the arms of the Black Diamonds.

Mysterious, glamorous, and bound together in their mission but constantly at odds, Zephyr, Creed, Will, Roan, Violet, and Alkamy are a Sleeper cell of fae, planted in the human world to help destroy it from within. With covers as rock stars and celebrity children, the Black Diamonds carry out the queen’s war against humanity. And unbeknownst to Lilywhite, she’s been chosen to join them.

Now more than ever, Lily’s heritage puts her in peril, and even the romantic attention of the fae singer Creed Morrison isn’t enough to keep Lily from wanting to run back to the safer world of organized crime.

Melissa Marr returns to faery in a dramatic story of the precarious space between two worlds and the people who must thrive there

Discussion: I LOVE MELISSA MARR. The Wicked Lovely series is one of my all time favorites so I can’t wait to dive back into the fae world with Marr. I picked this one up from my library and I can’t stop admiring the cover. I’m going to have to purchase it, so hopefully I like it so I don’t buy it simply for the cover art. Let me know your thoughts!

TBR Tuesday

This week’s TBR TUESDAY is……

Caraval (Caraval #1) by Stephanie Garber

Caraval (Caraval, #1)

Synopsis: Remember, it’s only a game…

Scarlett Dragna has never left the tiny island where she and her sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval—the faraway, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show—are over.

But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt-of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.

Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. Nevertheless she becomes enmeshed in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic. And whether Caraval is real or not, Scarlett must find Tella before the five nights of the game are over or a dangerous domino effect of consequences will be set off, and her beloved sister will disappear forever.

Welcome, welcome to Caraval…beware of getting swept too far away.

Discussion: I’m super excited to read this book. I’m in a Throne of Glass group on Facebook and some of us girls made a GroupMe to chat in. We decided to do a monthly book club and this was an option for December. We actually went with the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning so I’ll have to put Caraval off a little longer but still can’t wait to read it!

TBR Tuesday

This week’s TBR TUESDAY is……

The Chemist by Stephenie Meyer

In this gripping page-turner, an ex-agent on the run from her former employers must take one more case to clear her name and save her life.

She used to work for the U.S. government, but very few people ever knew that. An expert in her field, she was one of the darkest secrets of an agency so clandestine it doesn’t even have a name. And when they decided she was a liability, they came for her without warning.

Now she rarely stays in the same place or uses the same name for long. They’ve killed the only other person she trusted, but something she knows still poses a threat. They want her dead, and soon.

When her former handler offers her a way out, she realizes it’s her only chance to erase the giant target on her back. But it means taking one last job for her ex-employers. To her horror, the information she acquires only makes her situation more dangerous.

Resolving to meet the threat head-on, she prepares for the toughest fight of her life but finds herself falling for a man who can only complicate her likelihood of survival. As she sees her choices being rapidly whittled down, she must apply her unique talents in ways she never dreamed of.

In this tautly plotted novel, Meyer creates a fierce and fascinating new heroine with a very specialized skill set. And she shows once again why she’s one of the world’s bestselling authors.

What are your thoughts on this novel?

Do you think I should read it next of shelf it til a later date?

Harry Potter Moment of The Week

*Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links*

Alright guys! It’s time for my first Harry Potter Moment of The Week. Once again, this topic was supposed to go up 10/19, I’m behind because I already have a Thursday meme. I didn’t want to do two on one day, so y’all get mine a little after everyone else’s. But that’s okay. Down below I have the original post with all of the topics, past and future, listed. I have highlighted last weeks topic that I am doing today which is, Which books would you recommend to McGonagall? – October 19th 2017.

Which books would I recommend to McGonagall….. I feel like McGonagall would be a classics fan. So, out of the books that I’ve read, I would recommend Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, EmmaTo Kill a Mockingbird, The Odyssey, Romeo and Juliet, and the likes. I say classics all the way.

Maybe a little Fey, Fairy action as well. Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr is gold as well. I also am feeling a little horror vibe as I get to the end of writing this. I would recommend that she read It by Stephen King.

I definitely would NOT recommend anything erotic romantic. A Court of Thorns and Roses series is a no because as much as I love SJ Mass, I just don’t see McGonagall being into smut.

Harry Potter Moment of the Week is a feature started by Leah over at Uncorked Thoughts – with creative credit going out to Ula at Blog of Erised.  The idea is to get Harry Potter fans together and discuss our favorite things about the series; be it a favorite moment, character, magical item, spell, quote or object from the books, films or J.K Rowling herself.

This feature goes up on Thursdays, and is hosted here at Lunar Rainbows Reviews. Any blogger can join in on the fun, all we ask is that you link back to us in your post in some way!
Below you’ll find a list of previous and future topics. Thank you to UlaMel, Leah, MattJaclynAlexLee and Kimberly for their help and suggestions:

My Name in Books – Tiffany

I found this tag over at Thrice Read and thought it would be a lot of fun to try it out!

You have to spell your name with books on your TBR shelves.

Caitlynn and Jenn said they had trouble with N and Y, so let’s see how this goes for me!

T- The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niggenegger

I- In The Woods (Dublin Murder Squad #1) by Tana French

F-First They Killed My Father – A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers by Loung Ung

F- A Feast for Crows (A Song of Ice and Fire #4) by George R. R. Martin

A- American Sniper by Chris Kyle

N- Nobody’s Princess by Esther Friesner

Y- Yes Please by Amy Poehler

Ok, so apparently, I didn’t want to read any books that started with Y. I had to search and find one I would want to read. I underestimated it a bit there.

If you’re reading this post, I tag you to give this tag a try!

First Lines Friday

First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?  If you want to make your own post, feel free to use or edit the banner above, and follow the rules below:

  • Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
  • Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
  • Finally… reveal the book!

If you’re using Twitter, don’t forget to use #FirstLinesFridays!

The terror, which would not end for another twenty-eight years- if it ever did end- began, so far as I know or can tell, with a boat made from a sheet of newspaper floating down a gutter swollen with rain.

The boat bobbed, listed, righted itself again, dived bravely through treacherous whirlpools, and continues on its way down Witcham Street toward the traffic light which marked the intersection of Witcham and Jackson.

It by Stephen King

Derry, Maine is just an ordinary town: familiar, well-ordered for the most part, a good place to live.

It is a group of children who see – and feel – what makes Derry so horribly different. In the storm drains, in the sewers, IT lurks, taking on the shape of every nightmare, each one’s deepest dread. Sometimes IT appears as an evil clown named Pennywise and sometimes IT reaches up, seizing, tearing, killing…

Time passes and the children grow up, move away and forget. Until they are called back, once more to confront IT as IT stirs and coils in the sullen depths of their memories, emerging again to make their past nightmares a terrible present reality.

I’m about one hundred pages in and it’s already scary…. You’ll float too….

1,000 Pages +

Okay, okay, okay. Everyone calm down. Class come to order.

I have two, YES TWO, over one thousand page books I want to knock out in the next two weeks. Normally, I would say about two hundred pages a day for ten days? No big deal. But these books are not for the faint of heart.

I started A Storm of Swords by GRRM and made it about one hundred pages in. I can’t seem to pick it back up, so I’m challenging myself to finish it, but not til next week. That is because I also just received IT by Stephen King off of hold at my library, so I have to read it first since I don’t own it.

I have a review going up 10/20, 10/24, and, hopefully, next 10/27 as well. I’ve got a prequel (#0.5) that I’m going to knock out here once I quit putting it off. It’s only seventy-four pages so it might take an hour? I don’t know. I tried to judge how fast I read but I forget I’m supposed to be counting. Anyway, point is, I should have enough reviews to fill the gap for me to read these big books.

I’ll try to throw in a few memes and tags since it seems like y’all really like those. Views and visitors sky rocket when I post those, so that’s always fun. Down below I’m going to post a tentative schedule of what reviews will be put up through the end of October. I only post reviews on Mondays and Fridays, I think I might switch this to Tuesday and Fridays though to space it out a little better? Tell me what you think in the comments.

  • 10/20: A Dog’s Purpose (A Dog’s Purpose #1) by W. Bruce Cameron
  • 10/24: Aaru (The Aaru Cycle #1) by David Meredith
  • 10/27: Debutante (Davenport House #0.5) by Marie Silk
  • 10/31: IT by Stephen King
  • 11/3: A Storm of Swords (A Song of Ice and Fire #3) by GRRM

Keep an eye out for these reviews! (Schedule is subject to change)
